Last week I went on a run through the back country of Zion National Park. A spring rain hit the area the day before and the wildflowers in the area were in full bloom.
It was cool to get to the trail early enough that there were still rain drops remaining on some of the flowers.
The variety of flowers was incredible. Even all the cactus had bright pink flowers bursting everywhere.
Then finally the highlight of my whole run. I stopped on the side of the trail to get a rock out of my shoe. I looked to the side of me and saw clusters of small, white flowers that looked like they were speckled with dirt. Right beside them was another cluster of flowers speckled with dirt. That seemed strange so I went over and looked closer. I realized that it actually wasn't dirt. It was the most beautiful wild flower I've ever seen.
In all my time on the trails I've never seen this kind of flower before. Despite how the pictures look, these flowers were really small, only about half an inch. My camera was less than an inch away to capture all the detail.
What I love about trail running is the amazing, sweeping panorama of scenery painted in front of me. But this run reminded me that some of the most stunning views of the trail are right at my feet.
That last flower is freaking gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWow, this was an awesome run! Those flowers, especially that last one is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou're right - it's sometimes the small stuff that's the most beautiful. Gorgeous photos!
ReplyDeleteThat is really stunning! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI've run in Zion while on vacation and loved it. I need to visit in May so I can see some of those gorgeous flowers.
