Meeting the UltraRunning Magazine Gang

In February I got a phone call from Lisa at UltraRunning Magazine. I was surprised and excited and honored. Our call went something like this:

Lisa: “We’d like to have you write an article for the magazine.”
Silence
Me: “Are you serious? I would love to!”
Lisa: “Great.”
Me: “What would you like the focus of the article to be about?”
Lisa: “Your love of Hostess products.”
Silence
Me: “Are you serious? I would love to! That would be a piece of cake. Literally.”

And so began my correspondence with Lisa at UltraRunning Magazine.

Since then she has sent me some really funny things, including a link for how to make homemade Twinkies. She also remembered my disdain for Brussels sprouts, and emailed the most awesome picture ever which her husband John took at a grocery store:

I was excited when she told me that she and magazine editor John Medinger would be coming to the Zion 100 race. Our paths finally crossed at mile 35 when I was exhausted and it was so hot outside that I may have seen Alf on the side of the trail cheering for me. This was yet another highlight of my race experience:

The Hostess article was published in this month’s issue. If you’re interested, head over to your local running store and buy a copy. I’ll share the article with you next week too. They do such an awesome job with the magazine; I really feel grateful to be associated with these guys.

  2. That is really awesome! We don't get the magazine regularly here in SA. I love how you are hot and tired but still have an awesome smile in all your Zion 100 pics.

  3. I'll have to go get me a copy! Are you going to link the article here as well?

Little balls of death? Seriously, the most disgusting vegetable on the planet!

Alf is the best! We love that little creature and bought the first 2 seasons for the hubby for Christmas. That would have been a treat to see Alf out there while running. You should have gotten a photo with him.

  4. Even though I have no desire to eat any sort of Hostess product, it was a really good article - congrats for becoming a regular at UR!

You just haven't had brussels sprouts prepared correctly. :) I love them.

  6. Just a little plug - this was hands down one of the funniest magazine articles I have ever read. LOVED IT. Great job writing it, Cory, and congratulations on getting it published. So cool.

Also, I couldn't help but laugh at the ad placement with your article. There's your article all about Hostess, and right next to it is an ad for health foods. Ha!

    1. That is funny! Your boss probably finished the race, went back to the hotel, showered, and took a nap by the time I finished the race. I'd love to hear what his pros and cons were for the Zion 100.

  21. I love that you're getting to talk about that for a running magazine. You need to make sure you give a shout out to your race from last year! Also, boo for not liking b sprouts. I love those things! Oh well more for me.
